Sponsored by HUMAN Speakers Folding Hood Repair HOME

Shortly after I got the truck, it developed a "folding hood option" at the pre-bent and weakened point about half way along the passenger side.

The diagnosis of the cause is hood hinges which haven't been lubricated since 1979.

To repair this before it went too far (much easier and cheaper than buying a used hood), after lubing the heck out of the hinges, I attached a mending bar thing with six sheet metal screws. If they start to work loose I'll weld the sucker in place.

You can see that I also, quite sensibly, sprayed the now-hidden hood area with some classy primer I had lying around.

This repair, along with a liberal application of several lubricants including "black oil" to the hinges, seems to be working well so far. The "black oil" is this stuff I got in a spray can once, and then picked up six cans, that sprays on thick and goopy and nasty, and a bit runny, and then is supposed to settle in for the long haul. It is recommended for things like fork lift chains. I always get it all over myself.
