Pebbles

Undetected by physicists yet
Well-known to the cobblestones
You'd think we'd understand it why
Days all the seers go cross-eyed
All we do is gaze in bewilderment
Pebbles waving at the cosmic shift

Most of this cosmic shift takes places
With many degrees to understand
But these degrees are handed out only
At the edges of cliffs and valleys now
So falling we, we learn eyes-closed
Cosmic shift pebbles through these holes

The rocks and stones watch in patience -
Our thousand years but a day
To barely crack, they shed a tear
A million years! How can it be
A conversation to last that long
The pebbles record this cosmic shift

And I often wonder - do we all hear it
The groaning of the largest wheels turn
If you sit really still and listen —
I mean really still, no thinking —
You might hear a whisper from far far away
The galaxy tells you why it is spinning

Pebbles talk of the cosmic shift
A galaxy tells how it feels to be spinning

Pebbles talk of the cosmic shift
A galaxy explains all about spinning

Pebbles recording the cosmic shift
A galaxy tells how it feels to be spinning
