Midnight Kisses

Nothing that happens in the middle of the night
Should ever be really believed
(That's what the banker says)

Everything important that we've ever known
Everything we ever achieved
Is a rose from that deep velvet haze

Daylight is very good for counting things
And for piling things up on each other
Daylight is wonderful for drying out souls
But not for understanding your lover

Nothing worth writing except perhaps a travelogue
Happened while the sun shone bright
(I'm counting the Pharoah's crowns)

And everything that was ever, ever worth repeating
About every meaning in life
Came after the sun went down

(repeat)

The darkness is what holds everything together
Just ask any physicist
(The blackness in all of our wholes)

Everything that happens in the middle of the night
Should always be sealed with a kiss
For these hours that grow our souls

Daylight is ...
... not your lover

And whatever happens in the middle of the night
Is far more important to know
