Too Late

There's nothing like the long slow horror (love falls apart)
When you notice she won't answer your questions any more
The realization your thoughts are no longer on her map
That you have left the building, elevator's left that floor

It's far too late to wonder now (why...)
Which of the years and months you weren't listening to her
How and when you made yourself redundant through emptiness
When and why she started to learn to live alone - with you

The shock is sudden despite the passage (so much time)
Of all the nights the gap was widening between the two of you both
It almost makes it seem like it happened overnight
But if you really cared you could tell when things were on the shoals

If you really cared you never would have let it happen
I you cared you'd have been listening intently then
