The daffodil shoots
sleep quietly
under a soft white
blanket for now

The birds that return
early struggle hard
for a little warmth
ache for longer days

The sound of melting
mixes with the breeze
under a brighter sun
stirring and restless

Spring caresses and retreats
coming ever closer
the restless buds
swell in anticipation
