The Devil to a Draw

Last night I went down to the dream roads again
The devil was calling my name
Down in the ditches of an old dream
My demons were calling my shame

Staring back I pulled out my guitar ever-ready
And the dee-vil was calling this tune
Bending up strings but yeah I'm rock-steady
With a chord for my memories and you

The darkness and rain were still coming down
So I picked this last time, one last hope
For a gamble I fingered my trusty companion
Gave this old chord one more stroke

It was still deep at night and still very dark
But an eyelash of purple crept East
My tightly-wound axe to slice all around me
I held off that sleep-stealing beast

Last night I went down to the dream roads again
The devil was screaming my name
Down in the ditches of my oldest dream
My demons repeating my shame

And I held off once more, once more again
That life-killing beast and my pain
