Somebody Else's Well

I try to make you a happy home, a place you'd like to stay
Everything the way you want but still you go away
I sit here alone and faithful, but it feels like hell -
You've been getting water from somebody else's well!

I know it isn't easy to come home to me each night
But we've been through so much by now, that ought to hold us tight!
So why is there always one more thing that breaks the magic spell?
Like you still getting water from somebody else's well!

When I came home this morning - I found an empty house
I have no idea where you are - or why you were going out
Your pocketbook is full of receipts from some hotel
You've been getting water from somebody else's well!

I look around me all the time, I talk to all my friends
They tell me this and they tell me that, such stories with bitter ends
The cat is only out of sight but the mice don't hear the bell
Too many people getting water from somebody else's well!

A week goes by, a month or two, and everything seems fine
You're smiling in the candlelight, and drinking up my wine
You try to hide the worst of the signs but I recognise that smell -
You're still getting water from somebody else's well!
