Counterfeit
They couldn't risk their lives alone,
So we stood still while they left home.
They couldn't name the fears they faced,
So we filtered ours to keep them safe.
Counterfeits, liars, cheats, freeloading lazy frauds -
They couldn't bear to lose their minds -
It was so much easier with us behind.
They couldn't care for the sick or dead,
But shouted "freedom" til out of breath.
Counterfeits, liars, cheats, freeloading lazy frauds -
You thought you could leave the city,
To keep that neighborhood oh so pretty,
The rules you made - you wanted simple,
But I know, you know, they know you're crippled!
How much do you need to spend
To put this nightmare down to bed?
Maybe your flowers aren't so precious,
Your little darlings might go to seed -
You wait around and they'll be sellers,
Buyers, traders, you spread like weeds.
Counterfeits, liars, cheats, freeloading lazy frauds -
They wouldn't pay a dime of tax,
That might save someone else's back.
They wouldn't even help themselves,
If it might help someone - anyone else.

E pluribus unum that we once swore,
Before they put their gods before -
Before they put themselves before -
Before us all, before their law.

And we all did everything we could.
