Capital formation and protection has become the primary focus of government in the twentieth century. I see this as being the erroneous continuation of an economic system based on dire need for basic food and shelter. I also think that in order to maintain this illusion (for if no one thought there was dire need the system would collapse) two things happen. One is the hoarding of most of the wealth so that the general population cannot utilize it to improve their lives. The other is based on a complex feedback system of consumerism and advertising which recreates a sense of urgent need for much less important goods than food and shelter.
