The Best and the Worst

I got the best and the worst of them both
They gave me all that they knew how to give
They left me with more and less than they took

They'd wait up all night in fear of a hurt
But thoughtlessly slight when it mattered most
I got the best and the worst of them both

I know things were hard, did not understand
I should have known but nought was explained
They left me with more and less than they took

Love was present, was more than apparent
I'm not sure they could share as a parent
I got the best and the worst of them both

I got the best and the worst of them both
They gave me all that they knew how to give
They left me with more and less than they took

They gave me all that they knew how to give
I got the best and the worst of them both
