nothing that requires belief can be true

If it were actually true, it would not be necessary to believe in it.

Is faith the yearning for that which we wish was true? That which in our frustrated, tormented, lonely lives we fervently hope is true? Well, my friend (we are still friends, aren't we?), these things in which we rest our faith, our hopes, and our beliefs...

If these things were actually true...
Then our belief would be unnecessary.
and...
if they aren't true - our belief is a lie.
