George II

        when I hear him read
        what was written for him
        I can feel my freedom
        slipping slowly away

        when I hear the fears
        we are supposed to have
        I can see our happiness
        slipping into the shadows

        when every ardent proclamation
        seems to be patently untrue
and sadder, more true of the claimant,
I have but one fear: for us

his words pain some and blind many -
        it only makes me cringe
his attitude is narrow and unforgiving
as blind and numb as we

        every attempt to wash
        my poor innocent brain
        only makes it feel dirtier
        the struggle increases exponentially

        when I hear him read
        what was written for him
        I can only wonder
        why people listen at all
