Calling Home

I will keep on planting
in hopes these roots will grow
despite the restless shoes I wear
and the rustle of the road
I have roots in places
I have never been

The old stone walls weren't mine
these beech trees will outlast
my shelter from the rain
and the sun's uneven blast
And I have roots in places
I have never seen

I have found roots in places
never seeds were sown
and I have grown roots in places
they keep calling home

Geese that mark the seasons
fly north and autumn south
happy with no reasons
life's changing in and out
And I have roots in places
they have never flown

Stranger, I'm a landmark,
days weeks years a stone
gently touched in passage,
a journey safely home
And I have roots in places
winds have never blown

I have found roots in places
never rain was known
and I have grown roots in places
still they're calling home

I will keep on planting
encourage these roots to grow
quiet the restless shoes I wore
and rest here by the road
I have roots in places
They keep calling home

Calling home,
call me home
I have roots in places
They keep calling home
