Big

The loudest come first and the rest have to wait
The poet recites badly without asking our leave
It doesn't really matter the year or the date
No one 'round here knows we're trying to breathe

No one will notice while I kiss your cheek

I'm not a fish in their pond
I don't want a place in their tree
They can try to line up by size
I'll prefer to make my own destiny

The politicians practice phrases that say nothing that's new
And business says they're here to extract what they're due
They don't leave much room between pomposity and greed
But what little is left, I will share it with you

I will share all my dreams with you

I'm not a fish in their pond
I don't want a place in their tree
They can try to line up by size
Let's make our own destiny

It's a tiresome room - the joker's stale jokes
The storyteller repeats some romance
The painter always talks about plans for a show
At least none of them are selling insurance

Or real estate - just an annoyance

I'm not a fish in their pond
I don't want a place in their tree
They can try to line up by size
We should make our own destiny

The greatest loves here have all cheated with most of us
While future-bound names edit their legacy
They're all wired up to impress one another
But their honours and glories mean nothing to me

The impression I like is the one you make on me

I'm not a fish in their pond
I don't want a place in their tree
They can try to line up by size
Let's you and I make our own destiny
